Mental Illness

Mind and Body are One.

At Kotan Japanese Acupuncture Clinic  mental health is an important consideration.

Dr Caleb Mortensen has long clinical history treating people with a variety of Mental Health complaints such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Panic Attacks
  • Insomnia
  • Grief

Acupuncture is particularly good at treating a number of these issues. Unlike other modalities Mental Health is understood as an expression of the whole body, not simply as a problem with your head. Treatment for these conditions involves the entire body, balancing the Ki Energy internally as well as externally . This also makes for a considerable amount of difference as  there are many things that can empower patients with their own care with such as diet and exercise.

This important differentiation , that the body and mind are as ONE, is the reason why these treatments are so unique. Once assessed a patient will then undergo a series of treatments designed at improving the function and harmony within the entire body with an obvious focus on those aspects impeding Mental Health.  This might mean taking a closer look at the Ki Energy of the Spleen or Kidneys, bot of which have significant relationships with both the mind and brain. In Oriental Medicine the essence or vital energy of the internal organs is also associated with aspects of the spirit such as the connection between the Lung organ and the emotion of Grief.

There is no difference between body and mind, they are a single unit. Unfortunately there have been many who mistaken take them as separate entities. This cannot be further than to the truth.

The combination of acupuncture and moxibustion can calm busy, worried minds and bring about a sense of peace and contentedness with the universe and our environment.

Acupuncture can be used safely, in conjunction with other therapies or used on its own. Used properly, it can be utilized along side of existing Drug therapies or as an initial treatment plan for budding symptoms depending of the severity.
